Baidarka The Aleutian kayak
Most skin-on-frame builders consider the Baidarka to be the ultimate traveling kayak. Identifying features are the split bow, squared stern and ridged deck. Baidarkas combine excellent tracking with extraordinary speed in a design developed to handle the worst conditions the open North Pacific Ocean can deliver. Early Russian explorers and traders described the kayaks they discovered in the Aleutian Islands first used the term "baidarka" (the Russian word for "small boat". By the end of the commercial sea otter hunt, the Baidarkas hunting range stretched from the tip of the Aleutian Islands down south to Baja, Mexico.
Brewery Creek Small Boat Shop offers both recreational and expedition versions of the Baidarka.
