The Boats

The following is a list of some of the traditional designs that we work with and their general characteristics:

West Greenland kayak
Short-range hunting kayak that was used primarily for stalking and the pursuit of sea mammals such as seals, walrus and whales.

Upper Yukon River canoe
A flat-bottomed "kayak-form" canoe.

Baidarka – The Aleutian kayak
Most skin-on-frame builders consider the Baidarka to be the ultimate traveling kayak.

Canadian canoe
A skin-on-frame version of the classic canvas on cedar canoe.

Recovery kayak and North Alaska retrieval kayak
A small, flat play -kayak version of the traditional retrieval kayaks found on the north coast of Alaska.

Pram dinghy
A short rowboat with transoms at bow and stern.

Baffin Island kayaks
Very stable with enormous gear carrying capacity.

Providence River boat
This small rowing and sailing dinghy is a perfect day boat for poking around a bay with a friend.

King Island kayak
Said to be the toughest of the traditional kayaks.

Rowboat
I've built a number of rowboats for single rowers – no longboats yet!

Netsilingmeot kayak
Evolved for use primarily in fresh water.

Coracle
Coracles I build for the sake of whimsy.
