The North Alaska recovery kayak is a small, flat play-kayak version of the traditional retrieval kayaks found on the north coast of Alaska.

The retrieval kayak was used by hunters to retrieve game that was shot from shore. The recovery kayak is designed to play in the surf and to roll and spin.

Because they are only 8 to 10 feet long, both retrieval and recovery kayaks are easy, fast and inexpensive to build.
